Acrylic and pastel on canvas (16" x 20")
This painting is a surrealist take on the fates of Greek mythology. In Greek mythology, the fates are depicted as three sisters, all of whom share an all-seeing eye along with a needle and thread.
I decided to represent the fates as three doors, as we all choose different paths in life.
The door on the left is one of false hope. It is simple and intriguing, but ultimately causes those who choose it to run into a wall.
The second door is one of glory and grandeur. Many people strive to reach this door, but end up sacrificing everything important in that quest.
The third and most frequently chosen door is one of simplicity and mundanity. The cobblestone leading to this door is worn down, and the door itself is sturdy and reliable. But what lays behind it often lacks the exciting and lustrous qualities people once imagined for themselves.
